UTM started to encourage students and staff to use social media tools since 2009 when the top management agrees to develop a Facebook page for the university. Soon after the establishment of the official UTM Facebook page, the university Office of Corporate Affairs set up the official Twitter account, YouTube, followed by a few other social media channels.

The objective of using social media is initially as a tunnel to promote the contents in the university website including the announcements, news and any information to be communicated to students, staff as well as to the public.

As the social media world evolved and becoming a part of everyone’s life, UTM continues to engage with the social media users via more social media channels including YouTube, LinkedIn, Google plus and few others social platform which made it to vast numbers of users.
